Position summary

The Aircraft Fitter-Assembler is responsible for performing assembly operations (mounting, fitting and installing prefabricated modules and subassemblies to build aircraft). Using technical documentation, a manufacturing process sheet (paper or digital) and a kit of primary parts, the Aircraft Fitter-Assembler must, alone or in a team, assemble an aircraft structure, delivering quality work that complies with Airbus Atlantic Canada and customer standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret manufacturing and installation drawings; plan and mark patterns of various shapes; cut, shape, assemble and fit sheet and plate metal parts or any other form used in structure and assembly.
  • Perform all operations necessary for assembly, fitting, repair, modification and installation of all types of mechanical, electromechanical and hydraulic parts and assemblies; manufacture parts and perform complex adjustments.
  • Consult and interpret aircraft assembly diagrams.
  • Manufacture simple aircraft structural parts.
  • Install aircraft structural elements.
  • Assemble and fit, based on manufacturing documentation, subassemblies and structural assemblies of airframes and aircraft systems.
  • Assemble and install mechanical parts and elements on an aircraft.
  • Mount, fit and install prefabricated parts or elements such as skins, flight controls, mounts, hydraulic systems and other mechanical systems on aircraft.
  • Set up and use manual or automated machines and tools depending on the work to be performed.
  • Check aircraft assemblies against technical specifications using measurement and inspection instruments.
  • Ensure conformity of assemblies to manufacturing documentation through various control methods.

Profile

Education:
DEP in Structural Assembly or in Systems Installation OR a minimum of 5 years' experience as an Aircraft Fitter-Assembler in the aerospace field or a related assembly field AND pass an assessment demonstrating basic technical skills.

Specific requirements:

  • Solid technical knowledge in structure assembly and systems installation.
  • Proficiency in aerospace technical language and technical drawing interpretation.
  • Relevant knowledge of FOD management.
  • Good manual skills and excellent dexterity.
  • Good visual acuity.
  • Carefulness and precision, good reflexes, ability to concentrate and attention to detail (assembly or manufacture of high-precision components).
  • Analytical ability to quickly identify defects or other issues.
  • Sense of responsibility (parts conformity).
  • Ability to work in a team (multidisciplinary team: assemblers-mechanics, aircraft mechanics, other technicians, engineers).
  • Experience in the aerospace industry.
