Position Summary

Thales Canada has a current vacancy for a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Technical Publications Analyst to join the Technical Documentation Team within the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) organization. This role combines expertise in technical documentation with responsibility for creating and maintaining reporting metrics that provide leadership with clear, data-driven visibility of team progress and Technical Data Package (TDP) accuracy.

The successful candidate will be a resourceful problem-solver who takes initiative, learns independently, and applies practical solutions. Whether interpreting technical manuals, developing dashboards, or adopting new tools, this individual will thrive on figuring things out and delivering results that support both the team and the wider program. The candidate will also be highly organized, with the proven ability to manage and maintain progress across multiple, and sometimes conflicting, priorities.

Regulatory Compliance Requirement

This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the Canadian Controlled Goods Program, the Canadian Industrial Security Program, and/or the US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access, including eligibility to the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and the ability to obtain a Canadian Enhanced Reliability security clearance.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical publications and the reporting of team progress and performance as part of the Technical Documentation Team within the ILS organization.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise in technical data and documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with National Defence and customer requirements; act as a technical leader, mentor peers, and share best practices.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of technical publications and data packages, including CFTOs, EFT, drawings, diagrams, spares lists, and bills of materials (BOMs); maintain and revise existing CFTOs with updates from OEM manuals, specifications, and preventive maintenance routines.
  • Author, edit, and format technical documentation to high standards of grammar, clarity, consistency, and style; perform editorial reviews to ensure accurate terminology and compliance with editorial and corporate style standards.
  • Collaborate with LCMMs, engineers, designers, procurement, and configuration management to ensure documentation reflects the latest approved system/equipment configuration; provide oversight of TDPs and alignment with engineering changes and quality standards.
  • Create, update, and maintain TDP and team progress reporting metrics using Power BI, Excel, and other analytical tools; track, analyze, and report on team deliverables, progress, and performance.
  • Develop and automate reports and dashboards to improve visibility of TDP status, document change requests, review cycles, and quality assurance results; support configuration control by analyzing Document Change Requests (DCRs) and preparing Change Packages.
  • Coordinate verification and validation of CFTO updates and associated technical data packages; ensure preventive maintenance routines in LSARs remain aligned with current technical publications; manage indexing, cataloguing, and control of documentation per NDID and Equipment Registration processes.
  • Design Visio workflows and contribute to process automation and workflow improvements to enhance efficiency across documentation and reporting activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree from a recognized college/university in a relevant technical field (mechanical, electrical, electronic, naval architecture, computer science, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 4 years of demonstrated experience maintaining or revising technical documentation such as CFTOs, OEM manuals, equipment specifications, or preventive maintenance documentation.
  • Direct experience with configuration management principles, tools, and processes, including change control, revision tracking, and version management.
  • Proven editorial, grammar, proofreading, and editing skills, with the ability to produce polished, high-quality documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn independently, troubleshoot issues, and find solutions using manuals, technical guides, and online resources.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a Technical Writer Ontario College Graduate Certificate program (or equivalent).
  • Experience with configuration management software or PLM tools (e.g., Windchill, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of S1000D specification, IETM formats, and AG-006 standards.
  • Experience with Canadian Forces Technical Orders (CFTOs) and adaptation of OEM publications to government standards.
  • Familiarity with the National Defence Index of Documentation and equipment registration processes.
  • Experience in desktop publishing and graphics production tools (Adobe Suite or equivalent).
  • Exposure to Logistics Support Analysis Record (LSAR) tools.
  • Experience with computer programming/scripting, especially XML for structured authoring.
  • Familiarity with S1000D specifications and related business rules.
  • Proficiency with technical authoring software, such as MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, or equivalent tools.
  • Hands-on experience with Confluence and Jira for project tracking, documentation, and collaborative workflows.

Special Position Requirements

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week.
  • Physical environment: Hybrid position — mix of working from home and onsite (in office, at customer site, or on-board ships alongside in harbour).
  • Travel: Occasional domestic travel may be required in support of the ships.

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash 75,000.00 - 105,000 CAD Annual. This range is one data point used in pay decisions; final placement depends on factors such as career history, competencies, skills and performance, salary budget, program requirements, and internal equity. Thales may offer additional benefits and other compensation depending on circumstances not related to protected applicant status.
