About the role

Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. (Lockheed Martin) is the leading integrator of specialized combat systems (SCS) for large-scale, advanced integration projects in Canada. We leverage advanced engineering practices and modern technologies to design, develop, and integrate combat systems for warships. We are seeking motivated, high-performing individuals with specific skills to join our dynamic naval programs team.

The naval programs team is responsible for technical planning, design, systems engineering, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, sustainment and systems effectiveness analysis. In developing a product for a system-of-systems, participation includes design, manufacture, testing, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal. The team ensures the logical and systematic translation of customer or product requirements into system-of-systems solutions that consider technical, financial, and schedule constraints.

The naval programs team operates at the main locations where Lockheed Martin carries out projects in Canada (Kanata, Montréal, Dartmouth); opportunities are available at all these locations to support naval combat systems programs and proposal activities.

As a systems engineer and member of the naval development team working in a multidisciplinary team environment, the candidate will participate in the full engineering lifecycle including requirements, design, development, integration and testing, deployment, maintenance, and field troubleshooting for large, highly complex naval platform systems.

The candidate will participate in engineering activities that may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate on system design activities with the principal systems engineer and other engineering staff, including support for technical reviews
  • Perform needs/requirements analyses
  • Conduct market studies
  • Review requirements, allocation, and market studies
  • Perform system modeling and design, including model-based systems engineering
  • Define technical performance measures and track them
  • Work on system architecture and design
  • Plan system integration
  • Produce design documentation
  • Apply systems engineering design processes and best practices

Additional desired skills

  • At least five years of relevant professional experience (any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered)
  • Experience with the lifecycle of software, systems, hardware, or maintenance engineering
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical engineering and management staff, as well as related personnel
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a team environment
  • High degree of initiative and autonomy
  • Strong capacity for learning
  • Ability to adapt and perform in a dynamic environment
  • Good knowledge of SysML or other object-oriented design methods
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, DOORS (Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System), Cameo, ClearCase, ClearQuest, or Windchill
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Experience in the military naval domain
  • Experience with change management, requirements management, test and trial activities, safety, security, electromagnetic interference/compatibility, or environmental qualification

The candidate will also communicate with various members of the organization, clients, and suppliers located outside Canada. For engineering roles, the candidate must be able to read or revise technical documents from our primary clients and prepare technical documents for those clients.
