Main responsibilities include:
- Develop the certification basis and establish compliance strategies for the River-class destroyer
- Provide technical oversight and support to the certification program for River-class destroyers
- Determine regulatory and classification society requirements and translate regulations and guidance into clear deliverables for integrated product engineering teams
- Communicate with product integration and product teams to define scope of work, schedule, design details, risks, and other certification-relevant factors
- Work with technical teams to develop technical specifications, system designs, and system certification plans to support Lloyd's Register design assessment and warship safety certification
- Review system development, architecture, use cases, functional schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment arrangements to confirm system certification requirements are met and communicate required conceptual changes to design teams
- Identify certification risks and issues and communicate relevant information to engineering disciplines
- Develop, review, and approve certification-related documents including system-specific certification plans, technical white papers, safety justification reports, deviations and waivers, and test plans and reports
- Prepare and review certification documentation to demonstrate compliance with applicable rules and regulations
- Review subcontractor technical documentation supporting ship certification deliverables
- Interact with naval certification authorities and Lloyd's Register, as applicable
- Perform systems engineering activities including requirements analysis, requirements derivation and traceability management, system architecture design, and validation and verification
- Design tools, as required, to track deliverables, tests and compliance-related results to ensure timely completion of certification tasks
- Participate in development of technical change proposals and in cost and schedule impact assessments
- Define technical performance measures and track them
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree from a recognized university in software, electrical, electronic, hardware, systems, chemical or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
- At least five (5) years of experience in a systems engineer role
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) in English. Bilingualism in English and French is an asset
- Ability to read, review and produce technical schematics, technical specifications and engineering drawings
- Experience with systems engineering processes, including requirements analysis, requirements derivation and traceability management, systems architecture development, configuration management, requirements verification, and hardware and software engineering development processes
- Prior engineering or certification experience in naval or aerospace certification
- Ability to prioritize and resolve problems effectively
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to plan, adapt and thrive in a dynamic, schedule-driven environment
Desired Additional Skills
- Experience integrating naval and marine electronic mission systems
- Experience with shipboard sensors and effectors
- Experience managing requirements using DOORS (IBM Rational)
- Experience with JIRA methodologies for resource management and task planning
- Knowledge of naval system and equipment design standards and verification methods
- Detailed knowledge of the application of Lloyd's rules for warships and merchant ships, the ANEP 77 warship code, and IMO regulations in the context of a new-build ship program
- Experience with other international shipbuilding and certification standards is an asset
