About the role
As a systems engineer member of the naval development team's subsystem within a multidisciplinary team environment, the candidate will participate in the full engineering lifecycle including specification, design, development, integration and testing, deployment, maintenance and field troubleshooting of the subsystem for which they are responsible within large-scale, highly complex naval platform systems.
The candidate will participate in engineering activities which may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Ensure technical definition and development of system design and architecture
- Lead and coordinate system design activities with engineering personnel and support technical reviews
- Establish engineering planning and status
- Perform requirements analysis
- Conduct market studies
- Review requirements, their allocation and market studies
- Perform system modeling and design, including model-based systems engineering
- Define technical performance measures and track them
- Work on system architecture and design
- Plan system integration
- Create design documentation
- Apply systems design engineering processes and best practices
- Interact with customers to ensure engagement and overall satisfaction
What you bring to the role
- Hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university in a related discipline (mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, hardware, or systems engineering) or equivalent combined education and experience, with at least nine years of professional experience, or at least seven years of professional experience with a related master's degree
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Experience with the lifecycle of software, systems, hardware, or maintainability engineering
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical engineering and management personnel as well as staff assigned to related tasks
- Ability to solve complex problems within a team environment
- High degree of initiative and autonomy
- Strong capacity for learning
- Ability to adapt and perform in a dynamic environment
Additional desired skills for the role
- Good knowledge of SysML or other object-oriented design methods
- Good knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, the Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS), Cameo, ClearCase, ClearQuest, or Windchill
- Experience with Agile methodologies
- Experience in the military navy and coast guard domain
- Experience with sensor integration or ship integration
- Experience in change management, requirements management, testing and trials, safety, security, electromagnetic interference/compatibility, or environmental qualification
Language requirements (Québec)
Knowledge of the English language is required for this position so that the candidate can perform all duties. The role requires daily communication with a virtual team outside Québec. The candidate must also communicate with various members of the organization, clients, and suppliers located outside Canada. For engineering positions, the candidate must also be able to read or modify technical documents from our prime customers and prepare technical documents for those same customers.
