Systems Design Personnel - Integrated Communication and Information System
The Naval Programs team is located at the primary sites where Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. (Lockheed Martin) delivers projects in Canada (Kanata, Montréal, Dartmouth). Employment opportunities are available at all of these locations to support naval combat systems programs and proposal capture activities.
As a systems engineer member for a subsystem on the naval development team within a multidisciplinary team environment, the incumbent will participate in the full engineering lifecycle including specification, design, development, integration and testing, deployment, sustainment and field troubleshooting of the subsystem for which they are responsible within large, complex naval platform systems. Subsystems are grouped by warfare domain: Anti-Air Warfare (AAW); Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW); Undersea Warfare (UWW); Electronic Warfare (EW); and communications systems.
The incumbent will become a subject matter expert and systems engineering lead for information and communication subsystems and will participate in engineering activities including, but not limited to, the following:
- Lead system and platform integration activities for shipboard information and communication systems, including interface design
- Participate in compliance assessment to requirements and plan or coordinate requirements verification activities during design and implementation phases
- Maintain technical specifications and statement of work requirements
- Collaborate with customers, ship design teams, subcontractors and other stakeholders to identify and resolve integration and installation issues encountered during the development of information and communication system designs
- Review technical data related to design, installation, and verification activities for information and communication systems, provide comments and recommend acceptance or rejection of delivered documents
- Coordinate synthesis of information provided by government, customer and subcontractor to support whole-of-ship design activities
- Contribute to design documentation and deliverables
- Prepare proposed changes based on information provided by the customer and ship designer

- Prepare and submit or present technical change requests for approval by the Change Committee; coordinate implementation of approved changes
- Contribute to key subcontract activities such as fact-finding, kickoff meetings, design reviews, and product design and acceptance
- Maintain system architecture and design
- Apply systems engineering processes and best practices
Required skills, abilities and experience
- The successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university in software, electrical, electronic, hardware, systems or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
- At least seven to ten years of relevant professional experience in communications (internal/external/SATCOM) and digital data information systems. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Experience with software, systems, hardware lifecycle or maintenance engineering would be an asset
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel
- Ability to solve difficult problems within a team environment
- High degree of initiative and autonomy
- Ability to adapt and perform duties in a dynamic environment
Additional preferred skills
- Familiarity with DOORS (Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System), Cameo Systems Modeler, Jira and Windchill is an asset
- Experience with Agile methodologies is an asset
- Experience in the military naval domain is an asset
- Experience integrating sensors, weapons or ships is an asset
- Experience managing subcontract contracts or supply chain management is an asset
- Experience in change management, requirements management, testing and trials, security, safety, electromagnetic interference/compatibility or environmental qualification is an asset
Language requirements in Québec
Knowledge of the English language is required for this role so that the incumbent can perform all aspects of the position. The role requires daily communication with a virtual team outside Québec. The incumbent will also need to communicate with various organizational members, customers and suppliers located outside Canada. For engineering positions, the incumbent must also be able to read or modify technical documents from our primary customers and to write technical documents for those same customers.

Salary range
$119,000 - $156,000
